Join us for a fun, relaxed and inclusive online story time, where children with sensory needs can enjoy stories and songs in ways that work for them.

This free event is part of Deafblind Awareness Week and brings together children with deafblindness, who are blind or have low vision, or who have other complex communication needs – along with their families – for a shared storytelling experience.

Together, we will read a story and sing songs, with on-body actions, Auslan and music, ensuring that every child can take part in their own way.

We’ll be sharing the story ‘I Am an Artist’, and families are encouraged to create their own sensory version of the story at home, using everyday materials. After registering, families will receive a practical resource guide with ideas to help turn stories into accessible sensory experiences or books tailored to their child’s unique needs.

To support different access needs, the event will include:

  • Braille
  • Sensory kit
  • Clear speech
  • Audio description
  • Auslan
  • A resource guide for making stories accessible in different ways
