Get the technology you need to succeed in your studies

If you’re blind or have low vision, this bursary can help you access the assistive technology you need to participate fully in university or TAFE.

Applications

Applications are currently closed.

Next round opens: July 1 2026.

To apply for the Further Education Bursary, you will be required to answer some questions on your proposed education details and provide your most recent academic results. You will also be asked to complete a self-assessment on assistive technology and provide a letter from a referee.

What the Bursary gives you

The bursary provides funding for assistive technology that supports your study, such as:

  • Screen readers and magnification software
  • Laptops or compatible devices
  • Braille displays or note-takers
  • Other tools tailored to your study needs.

This technology helps you access course materials, complete assessments, and study more independently.

Is this for you?

You’re likely eligible if you:

  • Are blind or have low vision, meaning your sight is not correctable with glasses or contact lenses.
  • Are studying, or planning to study, Certificate IV or higher.
  • Are an Australian citizen or permanent resident.
  • Are a Vision Australia client, or willing to become one.

What difference can the Bursary make to your life?

“My studies are going well so far and I’m so incredibly thankful to Vision Australia...It has been incredibly helpful especially with the equipment provided, which has made a big difference in supporting my learning and day to day study.”

— Amish C, Vision Australia client

Access to the right technology can remove barriers and open up opportunities in education, employment, and everyday life to help make you feel more confident.

How it all works

  1. Start your application
    Complete a short pre-application questionnaire.
  2. Submit your application
Provide details about your course, needs, and supporting documents.
  3. Assessment
Applications are reviewed based on your study requirements and need for technology.
  4. Receive your technology
If successful, you’ll be supported to access the equipment you need.

No specialist assessment required

You don’t need a formal assistive technology assessment to apply. Instead, you’ll complete a short self-assessment where you tell us:

  • What technology you currently use
  • What’s working well
  • Where you need support.

What you’ll need

To complete your application, you’ll need:

  • Details on your eye condition, and how it impacts your daily life and study.
  • Information about the technology you have used, and need to use for study.
  • Proposed course details, including the institution, course name, start date.
  • Your most recent academic results such as an academic transcript or school report.
  • A letter from a referee. This can be from a representative from school, church or local community who has known you for at least 12 months.
